The HE693SNP232 SNP to RS-232 adapter has two ports, which is sufficient for most applications. The 15-pin SNP connector on the CPU rack power source connects directly to the PLC programming port on the CPU cabinet. This power to the SNP adapter is provided directly from the programmable port, with a rated current of up to 100 milliamperes flowing at a rated voltage of 5 volts DC at the highest possible level. The RS-232 port has nine (9) pins and may be connected to any RS-232 device.
From its 15-pin combinations, pins 1, 3, and 7 are not grounded, pins 2 and 5 are linked to the +5V rated VCC, and pin number 4 has no connection. Pins 6 and 14 are linked together to provide the clear to transmit signal in the input direction. Request to transmit is related to the output direction of pin 8 and pin 15, which are marked RTS+ and RTS- on their corresponding connectors. Pins 9 to 13 are wired together to accept data for use as input and output devices, respectively.
This connector was selected for the input-output section of the circuit in order to facilitate direct connection to the IBM PC/AT. An RS-232 port equipped with nine (9) pins will be provided by almost all IBM compatible computers with a pinout that is compatible with this. It is possible to utilize the XT adapter on an IBM-compatible PC that has a 25-pin RS-232 connection when linking the SNP adapter to IBM comparable PCs with hardware handshaking.
