The IC698CPE010 is a Central Processing Unit by GE Fanuc. It is from the RX7i series and can control the industrial machinery in real-time. The CPU communicates with other modules and devices through the VME64 connection backplane. It consists of a 300 Megahertz Celeron microprocessor that allows users to perform floating-point calculations. Each of its Boolean function has a standard speed of 0.33 milliseconds per coil. The key features of the CPU include 2x ethernet ports, 3x embedded serial ports, a test edit mode, supports bit-in-word reference, supports symbolic variable, and a data monitoring feature. The IC698CPE010 has a RAM memory of 10 Megabytes for storing programming information and data. A CMOS battery sustains this memory in case of power loss. It also includes 10 Megabytes of nonvolatile flash memory (NVRAM). The operating system firmware is stored in this flash memory. A user can update the firmware of the device without taking out the memory or replacing its EPROMs.

The IC698CPE010 can be operated by two means: using the three-position switch to run or stop the device, and connecting it to a computer and then running the appropriate software. The device can be connected to a computer using the Ethernet or serial port. To connect the device with the computer using an Ethernet port, the user will require a Cat5 cable and IP addressing. To connect using the serial port, use an SNP protocol. To program and configure the device, use a Proficy Machine Edition PLC-Logic Developer software on the computer. Data configuration in the device is secured with a password.
