The communication control module IC655CCM500 is a series 5 programmable logic control (PLC) and is manufactured by GE Fanuc. The power supplied is rack mount which converts the alternating current to direct current and then distributes the current to each component of the electronic device. It has a voltage rated at 5 volts DC and the rated current is 600 milliamperes. The device is used alongside the GE Fanuc series 5 I/O module. To enable communication in the system, the device uses CCM2 protocol or CCM3/RTU to communicate with other programmable controllers of different series. The communication control module can bear voltage more than 1500 volts AC.

The enclosure type is open and, therefore, it should not be used in corrosive environment and is limited to indoor use. The suitable operating temperatures should be between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius but can be stored in temperature that ranges from -20 to 70 degrees Celsius. The allowable humidity that the device can be exposed to, is between 5 to 95 percent and non-condensing. The maximum allowable noise in the circuit meets the requirement for NEMA ICS3-304 and the pulse voltage is 1000 volts at 1 millisecond.

The rate at which data is processed is selectable and ranges from 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 and 19200 bit per second. The device dimension is estimated to be 250 mm x 41 mm x 129 mm (height x width x depth). The modes used for error checks include LRC check, parity check and CRC-16(RTU mode). It has a scratchpad which contain robust setup and status information.
