The Allen Bradley W55 is a class 20 overload heater element from the W Series. It serves as a thermal overload heater element with a rated amperage of 12.8 to 13.7 amperes, it is compatible with thermal overload relays, magnetic motor starters as well as motor controls. For the W55 Heater Element, 115 percent of the 14.0 full load amperes (all sizes) is the rated relay in amperage at +40 degrees Celsius (+104 degrees Fahrenheit). The Allen-Bradley 500 product line receives standard overload relay protection from the Allen-Bradley W55 class 20 heater element. This Allen-Bradley heater element provides class 20 operation, with a typical trip in no more than 20 seconds at a current that does not exceed 600 percent of its rated current.

Furthermore, in most cases, the environmental temperature of motors and controllers is much the same, hence the Allen-Bradley W55 overload relay is manufactured to detect changes in the environmental temperature and safeguard the motor across a wide temperature range. Heating elements should be chosen according to guidelines supplied when the temperature differential in between motors and controllers does not exceed 10 degrees Celsius. The typical cases in which the Allen-Bradley W55 class 20 heating element is utilized, are when motor specifications are as follows three-phase alternating current system with a horsepower rating of 25, a voltage of 460 volts, a frequency of 60 hertz, and an FLC of 34 amperes with 40 degrees Celsius temperature at starter 40 degrees, and 25 degrees Celsius temperature at the motor.
