Part number 1756sc-IF8u is a universal analog input module, manufactured by Spectrum Controls for use with ControlLogix 1756 I/O rack systems. The module includes eight (8) input channels that can accept voltage, current, resistance, RTD, and thermocouple and can accept any combination of inputs at one time. The module receives a voltage of 5 volts direct current (DC) and 24 volts direct current (DC) via a power supply from the backplane interface. The maximum current consumption of this device is rated at 0.23 amperes at 5 volts DC and 0.075 amperes at 24 volts DC. The module operates at different update times depending on the input frequency. If a total of eight (8) channels are used, when the input frequency is rated at 10 hertz, the response time is 0.99 seconds. If the input frequency is at 1000 hertz, then the response time is 0.04 seconds. 

The thermocouple types include J, K, T, B, E, R, S, N and C scopes that in total cover a temperature range of -270 to 2315 degrees Celsius (-454 to 4199 degrees Fahrenheit). The RTD inputs feature material types PT385/3916, Ni618/672, NiFe518 and Cu426. These inputs have resistance ratings of 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 ohms. The current input range of this device is 0 to 20 milliamperes and 4 to 20 milliamperes, with a voltage range of ±50 millivolts, ±150 millivolts, 0-5 volts, 1-5 volts, 0-10 volts, and ±10 volts. This unit has a single terminal block, which supplies connection for the input channels. To compensate cold junction effect of freezing, there are two cold junction compensation sensors (CJC). The module features LED indicators, which are serving the purpose for diagnostics identification of problems either on power-up or during normal operation.
