The 100-DMD00 is a mechanical interlock whose purpose is to lock the moveable contact on a contactor, preventing it from switching. The lock is like a safety feature that prevents the module from switching when not in use, to prevent system failures, and to protect the equipment when not in use. There are three (3) types of interlocks Allen-Bradley offers mechanical interlocks, electrical interlocks, and logic interlocks. Mechanical interlocks are physically connected to the contactor module to prevent unintended operations. The interlocks are helpful when using them for reversible motor starters, as it essentially prevents the forward and reverse contactor of the motor from energizing at the same time, hence, preventing damage to the motor or the system.
To add this optional accessory, simply remove the contactor from its mounting and make sure the coil is de-energized to prevent harm. Attach the mechanical interlock from the side onto the contactor and screw it into the place. Practice caution when replacing or installing such high-power devices to prevent damages. Use electrical interlocks to automate the contactor to control a system comprising of multiple motors. A logic interlock can also be used in an automation industry as that relies on sensors and actuators. When a certain actuator needs to be controlled, the sensors may send out data to the main controller board to either start or stop the contactor from switching the motors/actuators. All the products manufactured by Allen-Bradley / Rockwell automation are made using environmentally friendly materials to help protect the eco-system.
