This AK-R2-120P1K2 is an external dynamic brake kit and is manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This kit belongs to PowerFlex 70 series. This brake kit resistance is 120 Ohms. This brake kit can be used with various ranges of drivers and motors. For example, this dynamic brake kit uses 2.2 kW (kilowatts), 4 kW, 5.5 kW, and 7.5 kW for the 400 to 480 Volts AC-rated motors and drives. For 400-480 VAC drives, the continuous power rating is 0.26 kW, and the maximum energy rating is five kilojoules. In the 400-480 VAC input category, the AK-R2-120P1K2 is available in drives with an output of 3 HP, 5 HP, 7.5 HP, and 10 HP. The maximum energy rate for this dynamic brake kit is 52 kilojoules. When this dynamic brake kit is in use, the temperature may rise to 200 degrees Celsius, particularly for these operations. Allen-Bradley AC drivers do not provide the required protection for external brake resistors like the AK-R2-120P1K2 kit. This brake kit should be operated with the required protection, and if it fails there is a risk of fire for the brake resistors. Allen-Bradley's recommendation is to protect external resistors from excessive temperatures. The user is advised to disconnect the system power before the installation of the brake kit, and it should be ensured that DC voltages are discharged to zero volts. For air cooling applications, a minimum separation of two inches out of 50.8 mm should be provided between the AC Drive and this external dynamic braking kit.
