Part number 442L-SAFCAM1 by Allen-Bradley is a Guardmaster SC300 Type 3 safety sensor designed for a variety of light and medium industrial machine protection applications. It works on vision-based algorithms and is aimed for hand detection in industrial machinery. Moreover, it is designed for applications which allow the sensor to observe a square or rectangular frame of the targeted hazardous area that have an IP54 environmental rating requirement. One (1) SC300 sensor observes an angular field view of one hundred and ten degrees (110⁰), which can be doubled by installing two (2) SC300 sensors in back-to-back configuration while synchronizing their inputs. It has an input voltage supply of 24 volts direct current (DC) and a detection range of 0.4 to 1.5 meters.

The sensor operates by inspecting a 2D image of the targeted area against a background composed of a passive pattern. It detects hand movement when this passive patterned background is obstructed by any object falling in the designed resolution (24 / 30 mm). Once the obstruction is detected, the sensor triggers the alarm within a response time of 20 milliseconds. Additional features include integrated EDM, Teach-in, and Restart/Reset functionalities. It is suitable for Category 3 based machine protection applications and is designed according to cULus and CE standards.

The 442L-SAFCAM1 sensor enables a cost-effective and convenient solution for a diverse range of machine protection applications. Its design is optimized for easy installation in tight or constricted spaces. It offers a one size fits all functionality, which eliminates the need to measure the opening and then select the sensor based on appropriate resolution, light curtain, and protective height. The safety sensor is packaged in a compact aluminum (diecast) housing and can is mountable within or to a side of a machine frame.
