The Allen-Bradley Stratix 1783-EMS08T is a managed Ethernet communication switch belonging to the Stratix line of communications devices. It comes with eight RJ45 ethernet communication ports rated for 10/100 Mbps network transmission, as well as an optional fiber optic network communication port. This switch features 16 indicator lights for its ports, as well as 3 global status indicators. This switch also supports a number of SFP modules, including the 1783-SFP1GLX module and the 1783-SFP1GSX. The 1783-EMS08T communication switch is specified for an input current of 250 milliamps at 24 Volts of direct current (DC). However, the switch supports the entire range of DC voltages from 12 to 48 Volts. In terms of efficiency and energy consumption, the 1783-EMS08T switch is rated for 5.8 Watts of peak power dissipation. On the other hand, the peak thermal dissipation is 24.6 BTU per hour at a temperature of 60C. This switch supports a complete suite of network communications protocols, including HTTP, Telnet, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, DHCP, FTP, IGMP, BOOTP, and the SMTP protocols.


The 1783-EMS08T switch features communications functions over Ethernet/IP such as bandwidth alarming, port control, and active connections. The switch is also capable of acting as a DHCP server and offering port mirroring, IGMP snoop, and IGMP query features. The maximum safe level for inrush current for the 1783-EMS08T is 2.2 Amps. The safe working temperature range for the 1783-EMS08T is 32F to 140F, while the safe storage range falls within the zone of -40F to 185F. Be warned that the 1783-EMS08T is extremely vulnerable to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) which can seriously damage its internal components.
