The versatile Allen-Bradley 1746-A10 modular chassis is designed to be used with SLC 500 system. The chassis has 10 slots and can be easily configured to the systems size. The modules can be added on to go from 10 to 30 slots by using the interconnecting cables. One end of the ganged chassis is mounted with the input and output adapter (the processor). Internal air circulation is maintained by providing spacing and using short wires. The dimensions are about 15.9 inches long, 6.8 inches wide and 5.8 inches high. The chassis with no modules mounted weighs 1.45 kilograms.

The maximum backplane current range is 10 Amperes at 5.1 Volts direct current to 2.88 Amperes at 24 Volts direct current. The allowable operating temperature ranges from 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit while the storage temperature range is -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the allowable non-condensing relative humidity is between 5 and 95 percent. Each 10 slot chassis has six mounting compartments and is provided with a grounding bus to provide sufficient grounding. A 14 AWG size grounding cable is recommended.
