The IC698CPE040 is a central processing unit that has been manufactured by the GE Fanuc and is designed for the RX7i PacSystem series of products. This CPU is equipped with a Pentium-M microprocessor, and it has a user memory of 64 megabytes (MB) and an additional 64 megabytes (MB) of flash memory. Some of its functions include real time processing, device control and material handling. It has a processing speed of 1.8 gigahertz (GHz) and is featured with three (3) serial ports.

Communication between the central processing unit, different human machine interfaces, and the programmer is made possible with Ethernet. Other embedded communication ports include the RS-232 and RS-486 interfaces. When powered on, the device undergoes a self-diagnostic check. The light emitting diode (LED) tends to blink during initialization and remains on once the initialization stage is complete. The CPU comes with a field replaceable lithium battery, which has to be checked routinely to avoid losing memory. During power failure, the battery is used to operate the calendar clock. The battery belongs to battery pack IC698ACC701. 

The central processing unit can be upgraded through Win loader that is contained on the CPU’s RS-485 and RS-232 ports. Serial protocols used by the device for processing and transmission of data includes Modbus RTU slave, SNP and serial I/O. For optimum operation, the device should be subjected to ambient temperature that is between zero (0) degrees Celsius and sixty (60) degrees Celsius.
