The IC698CHS017 is a front and rear-mounted rack that can support 90-70 Series, RX7i, and VME modules. The module connectors are spaced 0.8 inches apart from each other on the rack backplane. These connectors are compatible with single-width as well as double-width modules. Rack slot zero (0) will hold the power supply of the unit while rack slot 1 always holds the CPU of the unit. All the other slots of the rack are available for any type of module. The IC698CHS017 is an open equipment rack, hence, it should always be installed in at least an IP54 protection encasement. The height of the rack is 283 millimeters or 11.15 inches, the width is 483 millimeters or 19 inches, and the depth is 190 millimeters or 7.5 inches. To install a fan between racks, 23 centimeters (9 inches) of space is required. A cooling fan is required to be installed in certain types of modules that are used in the rack, and each cooling fan is designed for a different power source.
DIP switches and jumpers are not required for addressing modules and the rack supports sensing of slots for I/O modules. Point referencing of I/O modules is done through CIMPLICITY Machine Edition Logic Developer PLC Software. Bus grant signals and Interrupt acknowledge signals are connected together in a daisy chain configuration. The IC698CHS017 supports RX7i AC power supplies, as the rack can sustain even higher currents. J2 connectors are available on the backplane of the rack, and support VME transfer speed of 64 bits per cycle. For shield grounding, Series 90-70 and RX7i modules offer different options. Metal faceplates of each module need to be attached firmly to the encasement for RX7i modules, whereas, Series 90-70 modules have a built-in ground clip that makes contact with the encasement during installation.
