Allen-Bradley's 8520-SM4 analog-servo module is designed for the 8520 9-series. The 8520-SM4 is a high-speed servo motor processor included inside the component's housing. It gets different data concerning velocity or location from the control module, which is subsequently received by the analog servo amplifiers in order to activate the control servo motors. One analog-servo module can control four closed-loop axes and one open-loop axis. The 8520-SM4 is a four-axis servo module. The connections, which are labeled as J1, J2, J3, and J4, receive axes-related data. It is not required to link the axes in any particular order. Through these connections, data is sent to the servo amplifiers. Another connection, TB2, is utilized to provide instructions to the analog spindle drive system and cannot be used in conjunction with a feedback device.
The 8520-SM4 has a single-ended analog output driver with an output voltage range of ten (10) volts. The 8520-SM4 has a resolution of 1.22 mV with a sampling frequency of 500 Hertz. The 8520-SM4 has a maximum output current of 5 milliamperes, a load range of 2 kilo-ohms, and a load capacitance of 0.01 microfarad. To replace this servo module, cut power to all peripherals and detach the wires from the servo module's connections; next, unscrew the mounting screws from the board and pull the board rack out of the enclosure. Remove the six screws from the board rack to detach the board and reinstall the servo module. Then replace and tighten all of the screws, reconnect the connections, and switch on the power.
