The Allen-Bradley 1797-PS2N2 is a power supply module that belongs to Rockwell Automation’s FLEX Ex Power Supply series of modules. The power supply is an essential component in the operation of an intrinsically safe system. It must isolate the unsafe incoming power from the control system and limit the available energy to IS-safe levels. No other power source is needed to operate the components attached to the FLEX Ex system in a hazardous area. The FLEX Ex modules generate the power required to operate the valves, actuators, and transmitters in the industrial automation system. The 1797-PS2N2 is an in/quad-Ex out power supply in an explosion-proof enclosure with a conduit pipe-thread input and output terminators. The device can be mounted near controlled equipment, thus eliminating long runs of multiple cables, conduit, and messy sealing. A built-in galvanic isolation feature eliminates the need for IS Barriers/isolators. Its advanced diagnostics provide the real-time status of the system to ensure effective troubleshooting.
The Allen-Bradley 1797-PS2N2 can be removed and inserted by the operator when it is powered. This makes it possible to replace the modules and make cable connections in hazardous areas while the system is still in operation. It is rated for Class I, II, and III / Div 1, Zone 1, and 22. This allows the mounting of the module in hazardous locations. The system must be planned as per the number of inputs and outputs. The number of power supplies that are required can be decided accordingly. The 1797-PS2N2 is sensitive to electrostatic discharge and must be protected from it at all times. It is recommended to place a safety sign near the device to prevent any person from touching the device.
