The Allen-Bradley 1769-SM2 compact Input/Output to DSI/Modbus module has a I/O connection for 3 drives in single drive mode ( one per channel) and 15 drives in multiple drive mode (five per channel) such as Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4-class devices and for up to 31 other DSI/Modbus RTU slaves, such as Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 7-class devices. This module can be employed by controllers such as the CompactLogix controller or the MicroLogix 1500 controller or a remote 1769-based adapter such as the 1769-ADN DeviceNet adapter. The 1769-SM2 I/O to DSI/Modbus module can be employed in several applications mainly in the industrial field. The 1769-SM2 module can be mounted on well-grounded panels using two mounting M4 or #8 screws or on either EN 50 022 - 35 x 7.5 or EN 50 022 - 35 x 15 DIN rails. The 1769-SM2 module has four front bi-color (red/green) status LED indicators which show the status of this module and help in troubleshooting and diagnostics establishment. This Allen-Bradley 1769-SM2 compact I/O to DSI/Modbus module can manage and read/write data for all five Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4-class devices on each channel. The Allen-Bradley 1769-SM2 is also able to store parameters and other information in its own non-volatile memory. This Allen-Bradley 1769-SM2 module can be supplied through 1769 Compact I/O power supplies such as 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, 1769-PB4 power supplies except when connected to a MicroLogix 1500 base with a current consumption of 350 milliamps at a voltage rating of 5 volts DC. This module has a distance rating of 4 and should be within four modules of the I/O bank's power supply. The Allen-Bradley 1769-SM2 module can be connected easily to either the controller or to an adjacent I/O module before or after mounting. The 1769-SM2 module is intended for use in a mainly industrial environment that is clean and dry. This module weighs approximately 142 grams (0.31 pounds) while shipping. This Allen-Bradley module works properly at -10 degrees to 50 degrees Celsius (14 degrees to 122 degrees Fahrenheit).
The 1769-SM2 module was designed and manufactured by Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation. This communication module provides three Compact Input or Output connection channels to be connected to PowerFlex 4-Class drives. In single mode, up to three drives can be connected while multi-drive mode has the capability to let you connect 15 drives (5 per channel). Multi-Drive mode offers freedom to configure a channel to operate it as a Modbus RTU master, which in turn allows up to 31 other Modbus RTU slave devices. The module has the electricity supplied with the aid of Compact Input or Output backplane and used as an expansion Input or Output with controllers like the MicroLogix 1500, CompactLogix, and 1769-based adapter. It offers configurable I/O parameters, like Logic Command or Reference, as well as Logic Status or Feedback for the drives connected with 1769-SM2. This module supports the -L31, -L32E, and the -L35E. However, explicit messaging is not supported for CompactLogix -L20 and -L30 processors, and 1769-based adapters. All the drives are connected in a daisy-chained fashion with the 1769-SM2 module over RS485. This module can operate at a transmission speed of 19200 bps when operating with DSI. Its transmission rates in the case of Modbus RTU communication are 300 bps, 600 bps, 1200 bps, 2400 bps, 4800 bps, and faster. The maximum distance it can support from the module to the connected PowerFlex drive is 10m.
