Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1

The Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 belongs to the MicroLogix 1500 Programmable Controllers line. The MicroLogix 1500 series features programmable controllers that are composed of base units, accessories and processors. The 1764-MM1 is an optional accessory that can be installed on an any of the processor from the MicroLogix 1500 line. The MM1 is a memory module, with an a memory of 8 kilobytes. This module can be easily used for upload, download or transport of user applications. In order to properly install the memory module on the device, the operator should first remove the cover (or the DAT if mounter) from the processor. Then, he should align the pins of the processor with the connector of the memory module. The module should then be firmly put in the processor, making sure that the locking tabs click into place. Then the user should place the cover or DAT back onto the device. The memory module can be installed onto the system at any time, without the risk of damaging either the controller or the module. Still, the module won’t be recognized by the controller, while it is in an executing mode (Run or Remote Run). In order to recognize the module the controller should be put in a non-executing mode (program mode or fault condition) or a power cycle should occur. It is possible to carry out a program compare between the application on the controller and the one on the memory module. If a memory module is removed, its abscence will be detected within one program scan.

The Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 comes with a memory capacity of 8 KB. It is used to transport user programs across multiple connected controller units. It also helps users retrieve corrupted or removed PLC files. It is used as an automatic recovery and a backup module. As mentioned earlier, the Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 is mainly designed to work with MicroLogix 1500 compatible memory modules. It serves three different purposes – provide memory backup, transfer data, and recovery of data. The transfer of data can be conducted between two controller units. This memory module also helps with data recovery in the case of the controller's fault condition. When it comes to memory, the Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 comes with electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). This advanced battery eliminates the need for a battery to retain memory in the case of a power cut or any other technical glitch. Being a compact and portable memory module unit, the Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 comes with an integrated memory of 8 KB. The Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 can be relied on to perform a wide selection of tasks starting from saving of user program, performing data back-up, performing program compare, implementing data file download protection and memory module write protection. Unlike other memory modules, the Allen-Bradley 1764-MM1 comes with support for removal or insertion while still being connected to power. However, before doing so, users need to save the controller's downloaded user program to the dedicated memory. Unlike other Allen-Bradley memory modules, the 1764-MM1 does not come with an embedded real-time clock.
