The Allen Bradley 1756-CJC is a ControlLogix Cold Junction Compensation Thermistor in a Thermocouple Sensor Kit. This thermocouple kit provides accurate temperature correction and precise thermocouple readings. This Cold Junction Compensation kit comes with two jumpers and is compatible with 1756-IRT8I or the 1756-IT16 module.
The process where a thermocouple voltage is added or subtracted from the output voltage so that the reference junction always seems to be 0°C is called cold junction compensation. The most precise temperature sensors are used for the temperature correction. This increases the accuracy of the readings of the thermocouple. The 1756-IRT8I module is chassis-based I/O module with eight (8) isolated channels and an RTD or thermocouple mode, while 1756-IT16 is also a ControlLogix chassis based I/O module with 16 channels and a thermocouple mode. It has to be made sure that the cold junction compensation that is used is compatible with the I/O module.
The 1756-CJC has a maximum power loss / dissipation of 6 watts at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. Two (2) different current configurations are generated at two (2) voltage levels, which are 5 volts and 24 volts depending on the type of power supply. At a rated voltage of 5 volts DC, the current generated is 10 amperes, while at 24 volts DC, the current generated is 2.8 amperes. The enclosures of this device are open and do not come with any restrictions. The preferred operational temperature for the most accurate readings is between 0 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius. The operation mode for this Cold junction compensator is Totalizer Fill and Prover.
