GE Series 90-70 PLC
Series 90-70 controllers are Programmable logic controllers with a more powerful processor, high computing power, and large memory to perform more complex tasks. These controllers offer more redundancy making them capable of use for complex applications like triple modular redundancy. These PLCs are equipped with more ways of communication so they can also be used for applications where larger numbers of I/O (inputs/outputs) are needed. The high computing power of GE Series 90-70 controllers makes them a good choice for applications demanding high-speed processing.
This is an industrial product by nature. If one tends to use these controllers in a domestic environment, it might cause interference in radio communications as the device can radiate energy in form of radio frequency. Anyhow, the user can take measures on its own in this regard.

Expansion Memory
For Series 90-70 PLC controllers, there are several CPUs whose memory can be expanded. To complement this, two types of memory expansion modules are also designed and manufactured by GE Fanuc.
- IC697MEM713 or 715 or 717 or 719 are CMOS-based memory expansion modules. These are available in memory sizes of 64 KB, 128 KB, 256 KB, and 512 KB. These expansion modules are useful for CPU 771, CPU 772, and the PCM range of CPUs. This module doesn’t need an extra slot for its integration. This memory module can be configured for its use as data storage or program storage. Its installation process is easy, as it doesn’t require any tools.
- IC697MEM731 or 732 or 733 or 735 are 32-bit, CMOS-based memory expansion modules. There are four different memory sizes for these modules, which include 128 KB, 256 KB w/256 KB of non-volatile flash memory, 256 KB, and 512 KB. This expansion module works for various CPUs, including CPU 780, CPU 781, CPU 782, CPU 788, and CPU 789. Its memory gets retained on the CPU by the battery. This module can also be configured and used for program and data storage. This module can be installed easily in the field, though a ##1 Phillips screwdriver is required. Parity is generated and checking is made for every byte of SRAM (Static Random Access Memory).
PLC Racks
PLC racks are essential in the PLC control system. Several PLCs can be integrated into one rack depending on the number of slots. PLC racks IC697CHS782 and 783 accept all IC697-type PLC modules. These racks also accept plug-in power supplies with an AC/DC or DC voltage. Two racks can be powered through a single power supply. An external power supply can be attached if a power supply adapter module is also available. These racks are usable even if a high current is required for PLC operation. Fan assembly (comprising of three fans) can also be made use of if the PLCs have high power and cooling is required. Fan assemblies are designed and manufactured to comply with the vibration and shock tolerance of racks and PLC systems.
Racks are available in front and rear mounting. The number of slots could be five or nine. Anyhow, if the user is using these PLCs for applications where a high number of I/Os are needed, racks can be interconnected. Apart from the slots of a rack, the capacity of the used power supply limits the number of modules installed within a rack.
Racks standardized for IC697 modules can also be used for 3rd party VME modules.
Power Supply
This product is designed to be resilient. It can accept AC, as well as DC, power supplies. A single power supply can make two racks operational, where each rack can be connected to one power supply. During operation, it can tolerate dips in the range of 30 to 100%. Variation in AC signal could be 10% and for that of DC; 20%. (Recall EN 61000-4-11 standard in this regard).

Storage and the operating temperature ranges of the batteries vary between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius. Anyhow, the manufacturer gives its users a complete guide to using this battery safely. For example, if the battery is charged at a high amperage with a high voltage (around 5V), the top of the battery might pop up. Apart from that, the quality of these batteries is good. They use a nontoxic solvent with a high boiling point. The solute of these batteries is also nontoxic and is a neutral acid.
Other Modules and Accessories
Apart from mentioned modules, these PLCs support coprocessor modules for their CPUs. Programmable Coprocessor Modules and Alphanumeric Display Processors are among these coprocessors.
Discrete input modules with different input power (12 VAC, 24 VAC, 48 VAC, 120 VAC, 240 VAC, 12 VDC, 24 VDC, 48 VDC, and 125 VDC), and a different number of input points (32-point, 16-point, and 14-point) are available. TTL with negative logic and 24 VDC interrupt modules are also available.
Discrete output modules are also an option with different current and voltage ratings, as well as a different number of output points (16-point and 32-point).
Analog input and output systems are also available, which could be current expander or voltage expander modules.
