PanelView Plus 1500 Terminals
The PanelView Plus 1500 series of terminals are the largest terminals in the PanelView Plus series. These terminals have full-color graphics displays with an excellent resolution. PanelView Plus 1500 terminals are classified as an operator interface with an actuation rating of one million presses. These terminals feature LED indicators and application flash memory of different sizes depending upon the logic module series. PanelView Plus 1500 terminals support various peripheral devices, such as USB hubs, mice, keyboards, etc.
Hardware Structure
Like other terminals in the PanelView Plus product line, PanelView Plus 1500 terminals have a modular structure. This structure brings ease and flexibility regarding the configuration and installation of the terminal system, in addition to its upgrade potential. Major components of these terminals include the display module, communication module, logic module, and power supply. Collectively, the display module and the logic module are referred to as base-configured units.
Display Module
The display module of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals has bezels that can be replaced in the field. This terminal series has full-color graphics with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The display of these terminals could be a touch display to ease instruction input. Allen Bradley designed the touch screens of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals to be analog resistive. PanelView Plus 1500 terminals have a display size of 15 inches. The screen has a luminance of 300 candelas per square meter Nits. The display of these terminals may also have an antiglare overlay.
Logic Module
Logic modules host various functionalities of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals. These modules have a port to power the terminal using AC or DC power. Logic modules can accommodate flash memory and SDRAM of different sizes. These modules also enable a terminal’s network connection because of their embedded 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports. Serial communication to transfer and print files or perform other logic controller communications is also enabled through the RS-232 port embedded in a logic module. Logic modules also have two (2) USB ports to attach peripheral devices, such as a mouse, keyboard, and printer. Additionally, these modules have real-time clocks. A Type I CompactFlash card slot may also be a feature of logic modules. However, not all logic modules have this slot.
Communication module
Communication modules are classified as an add-on to enhance the communication capability of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals. As mentioned in the logic module section, these terminals are already capable of network communication, so a communication module is not a compulsory component. Communication modules enhance the communication capabilities of terminals with ControlNet and DH+/DH-485 networks.
Input Instruction Method
To operate PanelView Plus 1500 terminals, users need to give instructions and commands to the device. These terminals have one of three input instruction methods. These methods are listed below.
- Touch: The touchscreens of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals are analog resistive. These screens can be operated with the use of one's finger or a stylus. No other tools or objects should be used to prevent damage.
- Keypad: The keypads of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals consist of function keys, numeric keys, and navigation keys.
- Function keys are programmable. Allen Bradley offers a kit to replace legends with customized ones. These function keys run from F1 through F20 and K1 through K20.
- The numeric keys are mainly comprised of numbered keys (0 to 9). The numeric keys also include the left and right tab, Esc, Alt, CTRL, Shift, Enter, and Backspace keys.
- The navigation keys on a keypad are mainly used to navigate through different screens/pages and to select different options. These keys are also used to move the page up and down, change to the home screen, and end an application when used alongside the Alt key.
- Touch and Keypad: This method is a combination of both a touch screen and a keypad.
Power Input Options
A base-configured unit of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals has three power input options to ensure application flexibility.
- AC (Alternating Current) power
- Non-isolated DC (Direct Current) power
- Isolated DC (Direct Current) power
AC-powered terminals can operate with an input voltage ranging from 85 to 264 volts AC. The frequency of the AC signal must range from 47 to 63 hertz.
Non-isolated DC and isolated DC terminals operate at an input voltage ranging from 18 to 32 volts DC. The DC-operated terminals of the PanelView Plus 1500 series have an integrated 24-volt power supply. The nominal voltage rating of these terminals is 24 volts. Additionally, the maximum power rating for these devices is 70 watts. An integrated DC power supply is designed and installed to ensure internal protection against polarity reversal. However, if a DC- or DC+ terminal is connected to the ground or earth terminal, it could result in the device being damaged.
For terminals that are not powered by an internally built DC power supply, an external power supply is required. For powering each device, a separate power supply of 24V DC needs to be used. The input power and output power of these external power supplies should be isolated from each other and should not be connected to a ground terminal. This technique will avoid loop currents in the ground wire and avoid damage to the terminal.
Allen Bradley recommends using a SELV (safety extra-low voltage) or PELV (Protective extra-low voltage) power supply. These power supplies help keep the voltages between conductors.
Battery
PanelView Plus 1500 terminals have a real-time clock built into their logic module. This clock is backed up by a battery and its timing can vary up to +/-2 minutes per month. The battery is easily replaceable and has a minimum life of 4 years if kept at 25 degrees Celsius. To replace the battery, users need to detach the communication module if it has been attached. Then, unscrew the logic module from the display module, expose the circuit, and replace the battery. The manufacturer recommends replacing the battery with a battery of catalog number 2711P-RY2032.
Status Indicators
PanelView Plus 1500 terminals are equipped with two status indicators for an easy diagnosis. These indicators are referred to as the COMM indicator and the FAULT indicator.
The COMM indicator is a communication indicator that lights up green. The FAULT indicator indicates a hardware fault and lights up red.
During the startup of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals, the communication terminal should remain on, and the fault indicator flashes a few times and then remains off. If both LED indicators are off, then the logic module or power supply has failed. In such cases, the power cable and power supply range must be checked first. If both are okay, then the logic module needs to be replaced.
Once the terminal has successfully started, both of the LED indicators will turn off. Afterward, terminal operation controls them. Below is a list of status indicators to help diagnose terminal operations.
- If the FAULT indicator is blinking and the COMM indicator is off, then there was a failed download of the last firmware. Users should try to download the firmware again.
- If both indicators are blinking, it indicates that there is missing or failed firmware for the EBC boot loader.
- If the FAULT indicator is on and the COMM indicator is off, then there is a fatal hardware error. Users should replace the logic module in such a case.
- When the COMM indicator is blinking and the FAULT indicator is on, the display of the terminal has a fatal hardware error. In such a case, users should replace the display module.
Mechanical Specifications: Weight and Dimensions
For PanelView Plus 1500 terminals, the weight of a base-configured unit without a communication module is 4.2 kilograms if there is no keypad, or 4.6 kilograms if there is a keypad.
The dimensions of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals also depend on if the terminal has a keypad or not. Dimensions for all three types of terminals are as follows.

Environmental Specifications
Allen Bradley recommends users of PanelView Plus 1500 terminals keep the device at 0 to 55 degrees Celsius during its operational mode. However, the permissible temperature range varies between -20 and 70 degrees Celsius if the terminal is not being operated.
These terminals can bear an operational shock of 15g for 11 milliseconds, and a non-operational shock of 30g for 11 milliseconds. Moreover, a PanelView Plus 1500 terminal is built to tolerate vibrations of 10 to 57 hertz causing a 0.012 peak-to-peak displacement. If vibrations are causing an acceleration of a 2g peak, then the frequency ranges from 57 to 500 hertz.
It is instructed to be kept in PanelView Plus 1500 terminals in an environment that has a non-condensing relative humidity ranging from 5% to 95%. Enclosures of these terminals are rated as NEMA Type 12/13. For indoor use, the enclosure could also be rated as NEMA Type 4X. PanelView Plus 1500 terminals also have an Ingress Protection rating of IP54 and IP65.
